A3I SHORT MOBILITY PROGRAM 2024
The A3I Short Cultural Program - UniMAP was a remarkable collaboration organized in partnership with the University of Yamanashi (Japan), Pukyong National University (Korea), and Hangzhou Dianzi University (China). This program was scheduled to take place in Malaysia from February 19 to 29, 2024, offering a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and academic engagement.
The A3I Short Cultural Program provided a platform for students to engage in a diverse array of academic, social, and cultural activities. This initiative enabled students to connect with peers from different countries, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of various cultures. Through this program, students had the opportunity to share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives, enhancing their educational journey and broadening their global outlook.
By uniting students from Japan, Korea, China, and Malaysia, the A3I Short Cultural Program aimed to promote international friendship and cooperation. This program not only sought to enhance participants' academic abilities but also to foster a sense of global citizenship and cross-cultural competence. We eagerly anticipated welcoming all participants and embarking on this enriching journey of learning, discovery, and cultural exchange.

DAY 1
UniMAP was proud to host the A3I Culture Program 2024, which took place from February 19 to 29. This exciting program brought together students from the University of Yamanashi (Japan), Pukyong National University (Korea), and Hangzhou Dianzi University (China) for a dynamic exchange of cultures and ideas.
The program kicked off on February 19 with a day filled with engaging activities. The first day began with icebreaking and group activities, setting the stage for new friendships and collaborations. This was followed by the official opening ceremony at the auditorium library. After lunch, participants enjoyed a comprehensive tour of the UniMAP campus, getting acquainted with its facilities and vibrant academic environment. The day concluded with an evening of woodball at the UniMAP sports complex, offering a fun and relaxed setting for students to bond and unwind.
This blend of academic, social, and cultural experiences promised to create an enriching and memorable start to the A3I Culture Program 2024.
DAY 2
On 20 February, the second day of the program, participants begun their morning with an immersive session on Malaysian traditional dance and costumes at the culture room. This activity offers a unique opportunity to explore and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Malaysia. Students will learn about the history, significance, and intricate details of traditional Malaysian attire, as well as the various forms and styles of traditional dance that are integral to Malaysian culture. This hands-on experience is designed to deepen participants' understanding of the local customs and foster a greater appreciation for cultural diversity.
In the evening, the focus shifted to technology and innovation with an enlightening talk on artificial intelligence at the lecture hall. This session featured esteemed speakers, including Prof. Chun Kwan Lee and Prof. Jongnam Kim from Pukyong National University, and Assoc. Prof. Ammar Zakaria from UniMAP. They provided valuable insights into the latest developments and applications of AI, highlighting its impact on various industries and everyday life. Following the talk, participants moved to the UniMAP sports complex for an AI project demonstration. This practical session allowed students to witness AI in action, engage with cutting-edge technologies, and participate in interactive demonstrations. The combination of cultural immersion in the morning and technological exploration in the evening ensured a well-rounded and intellectually stimulating experience for all participants.
DAY 3
On 21 February, the third day of the program, the day began with a language class at the Seri Cemerlang room, where participants were introduced to the basics of Bahasa Melayu. This class aims to provide a foundation in the local language, enabling effective communication and a deeper understanding of Malaysian culture.
Following the language class, a hands-on batik creation session was conducted at Sensasi Batik Simpang Empat. Participants had the opportunity to create their own batik art, gaining insights into this traditional Malaysian craft and its techniques. This artistic activity allows for cultural appreciation and fosters creativity among the participants.
In the evening, the day concluded with a tour of Gua Kelam, a scenic cave renowned for its unique geological formations and historical significance. This tour offers participants the opportunity to explore Malaysia’s natural beauty and learn about the local environment and history, rounding off a day filled with cultural and educational experiences.
DAY 4
On February 22, the fourth day of the program, the day commenced with a second language class in Bahasa Melayu in the Seri Cemerlang room. Participants continued to build their understanding and proficiency in the local language, enhancing their ability to engage with Malaysian culture and community.
Following the language class, the focus shifted to an exploration of Malaysian martial arts (silat) and the traditional headgear known as tanjak in the culture room. This session provides participants with insights into Malaysia’s rich martial heritage, as well as the cultural significance and craftsmanship behind the tanjak.
In the evening, participants traveled to Padang Besar for shopping and a visit to the Wang Kelian viewpoint. Padang Besar is renowned for its bustling market, offering a wide array of local products and goods. The Wang Kelian viewpoint provides a scenic overlook, allowing participants to appreciate the natural beauty of the surrounding area and enjoy panoramic views of the landscape.
DAY 5
On 23 February, the fifth day of the program, the day began with the final language class in Bahasa Melayu at the Seri Cemerlang room. Participants consolidated their learning and further developed their proficiency in the local language, preparing themselves for deeper engagement with Malaysian culture and communication.
Following the language class, participants delved into Malaysian traditional songs (lagu rakyat) and the art of kompang in the culture room. This session explored the melodies and lyrics that embody Malaysian cultural heritage, as well as the rhythmic beats and cultural significance of the kompang, a traditional Malay drum.
After lunch and the Friday prayer, participants visited Timah Tasoh Lake. Nestled amidst scenic surroundings, Timah Tasoh Lake offers serene views and recreational opportunities, allowing participants to unwind and appreciate the natural beauty of Malaysia’s landscape.
These activities on day five aim to enrich participants' understanding and appreciation of Malaysian traditions, music, and natural landscapes, fostering cultural exchange and meaningful experiences during the A3I Culture Program 2024.
DAY 6
On 24 February, the sixth day of the program, participants engaged in an activity at Rainbow Village in Kuala Perlis from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM. This village is known for its vibrant and colorful murals that adorn the walls of houses, showcasing the artistic talents of local communities. Participants had the opportunity to explore the village, appreciate the unique artwork, and learn about the cultural significance behind each mural.
Later in the evening, the program continued with a visit to the local fruit fair at Nyorok Cafe in Kangar. This fair offers a delightful array of fresh and exotic fruits, providing participants with a taste of Malaysia’s rich agricultural diversity. Participants could indulge in various tropical fruits while enjoying the lively atmosphere and engaging with local vendors.
These activities on day six aim to immerse participants in local artistry, community spirit, and culinary delights, offering memorable experiences that deepen their cultural understanding and appreciation during the A3I Culture Program 2024.
DAY 7
On 25 February, the seventh day of the program, participants began their day with breakfast at Saadiah Cafe, a local eatery known for its authentic Malaysian cuisine. After breakfast, the group proceeded to the Perlis Snake and Reptile Park at Sungai Batu Pahat. There, participants had the opportunity to observe various species of snakes and reptiles native to Malaysia and learn about their habitats and conservation efforts.
Following the visit to the reptile park, the program continued with a visit to the Perlis Herbal Forest, where participants explored the diverse flora and learned about the medicinal properties of local herbs. The serene environment of the herbal forest provided a tranquil setting for participants to connect with nature and appreciate Malaysia’s rich biodiversity.
Later in the day, the group visited Darul Aman Lake, a picturesque spot surrounded by lush greenery. Participants enjoyed the scenic views and the relaxed atmosphere of the lake, reflecting on their cultural and natural discoveries throughout the day.
In the evening, the program concluded with dinner at Asputra Ikan Bakar, where participants savored grilled seafood dishes, a popular culinary delight in Malaysian cuisine. This day offered a blend of cultural exploration, natural discovery, and culinary experiences, enriching their journey during the A3I Culture Program 2024.
DAY 8
On 26 February, the eighth day of the program, the day began with presentations from students participating in the A3I Got Talent competition. Participants showcased their talents, ranging from music and dance to artistic performances, highlighting the diversity of skills among the international participants.
Following the talent presentations, the day continued with the closing ceremony and farewell lunch held at the auditorium library. This event provided an opportunity to reflect on the experiences shared throughout the program and bid farewell to new friends and colleagues.
In the evening, the group traveled to Penang, continuing their cultural journey on this vibrant island known for its rich history, diverse culinary scene, and picturesque landscapes. This day marked the culmination of the A3I Culture Program 2024, blending talent appreciation, cultural exploration, and heartfelt farewells.
DAY 9
On 27 February, the ninth day of the program, participants embarked on an industrial visit to Penang, where they visited Plexus and Jabil. During this visit, students were introduced to each company and gained insights into their operations and contributions to the industry. They had the opportunity to tour the facilities, observing firsthand the manufacturing processes, technologies, and workplace environments.
These visits provided participants with valuable exposure to real-world industry practices, enhancing their understanding of modern manufacturing and technological advancements in Malaysia. The day's activities aimed to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application, offering participants deeper insight into the dynamics of the technology and manufacturing sectors in Penang.
DAY 10
On 29 February, the final day of the program, students embarked on a city tour of Penang, exploring its diverse attractions that showcase the island's cultural and historical richness. The tour included visits to Georgetown's UNESCO World Heritage sites, where participants admired the vibrant street art murals and explored the colonial architecture that characterizes the area.
Participants also had the opportunity to stroll through bustling markets, experiencing the local life and sampling Penang's famous street food. The tour emphasized the cultural diversity of Penang, allowing students to appreciate its unique blend of Malay, Chinese, and Indian influences through its culinary offerings and historical landmarks.
This city tour served as a memorable conclusion to the A3I Culture Program 2024, providing students with a deeper appreciation for Penang's cultural heritage and leaving them with lasting impressions of their time spent exploring this dynamic and vibrant island.
